If you’ve never played before Rift, there are two important things that are unique to Rift which are not found in any other game: Souls and Rifts. In Rift, players are able to select one of four primary classes: Cleric, Mage, Warrior, Rogue or rift guild in the game. However, your abilities are actually determined outside of which “souls” you have equipped your character. Within each class, there are a total of eight souls. Each of the eight souls is one of several roles and a very unique talent and ability of the tree.

Players can equip up to three souls and can eventually unlock all souls through quests. They can then change them at any time (for a small fee). You can place your talent points (you get for leveling up) among the souls that you want. However, it is best to choose a soul primary to most of your points (as you will have access to good capacity in this way) and use other souls 1-2 to support or buffs.

Clerics specialize in healing, but the soul is built for the Shaman melee damage. Clerics can use this soul to level up solo and with and exchange it for a soul healing when it’s time for dungeons or raids. Warriors have a variety of people doing something completely different with rift guild. The soul Champion plays like a traditional warrior deal damage and uses a 2-handed weapon. The soul Paragon uses two melee weapons and has some power and ranged attacks. The soul Riftblade uses mostly magic damage to its attacks and can handle a surprising amount of casting spells to damage the range. The Beastmaster soul summons animals using the warrior, making it a good choice for leveling. And these are only half of souls currently available for the Warriors (the others are based tanking).
